Who is Joey?
I grew up in a small rural town in Northern Maine, an experience that shaped my appreciation for close-knit communities and the importance of accessible, compassionate care. After graduating from high school, I joined the United States Marine Corps, where I developed a strong sense of discipline, service, and responsibility. Following my honorable discharge, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and worked in the insurance field for several years.
My path ultimately led me back to healthcare, where I pursued nursing school and graduated with honors (cum laude). I began my clinical career as a psychiatric nurse on an inpatient psychiatric unit, where I quickly realized that mental health care was my calling. This experience motivated me to further my education, and I enrolled in a Master of Science in Nursing program with a concentration in psychiatry.
After graduating with honors (cum laude), I became a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). I have experience providing psychiatric care across inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings. My approach emphasizes thorough evaluation, accurate diagnosis, and thoughtful, evidence-based treatment tailored to each individual.
I am deeply grateful to work in an environment where I find both my work and my role meaningful and rewarding, and I feel fortunate to support patients as they navigate their mental health care journeys.
My Approach
My approach to psychiatric care is thoughtful, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based medicine. I believe that accurate diagnosis and a strong therapeutic relationship are the foundation of effective treatment. I take the time to listen, understand the full context of each patient’s experience, and tailor care to their individual needs rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.
Treatment decisions are made together, with careful consideration of benefits, risks, and patient preferences. When medication is appropriate, it is used thoughtfully and monitored closely, with an emphasis on minimizing side effects and supporting long-term wellness. My goal is to provide care that is practical, compassionate, and sustainable, helping patients feel informed, supported, and confident in their treatment plan.
